Welcome To The Bottom Line Express

No longer will your GP certify you sick, instead under the new fit note system your GP can advise your employer that you are either “unfit for work” or “maybe fit for work”. In an article by our Advice Service we look at what the introduction of the new form on 6th April 2010 will mean to employers.

Do you want to make 2010 the best year ever for your business? If so our Masterclass article explains why now is the time to focus on your business’s growth and development.

If you are not a Peninsula client, but would like to know more about the Employment, Health and Safety or Tax services Peninsula can offer; please call Carole Keenan on 0800 328 9348.

How Do I Coach A Long-Term Stress Sufferer Back To Work?
by Ellen Singer
You need to identify what caused the stress and see if there are some practical ways of removing or reducing these trigger issues. Talk to your employee about what support they think they need in order to continue with the job. Agree a monitoring system and review progress to check how they are coping. Focus on what your employee can do and look to see if you need to reorganise how the work is carried out to prevent this from recurring.

If the stress is caused by some fundamental aspects of the job, or the work environment that cannot be reasonably changed, then you need to talk to them about whether or not they are suited to this role, or if you should look into any possible alternatives with them. If you are dealing with this issue and have any queries, call the Peninsula Advice Service on 0844 892 2772 and one of our advisers will be happy to help.
